IMI Informationsstelle Militarisierung e.V. and the Peace and Neutrality Alliance have agreed on the following Declaration drawn up by IMI. We have established the European Peace Alliance on the basis of the Declaration
Any group that agrees with the Declaration is welcome to join the EPA.
Our objective is to build a European wide alliance against the EU Constitution on the basis of the Declaration.
"Say NO to this EU Constitution!"
On October 29th the Draft EU Constitution was signed by the heads of state of the EU memberstates. We, the undersigned, oppose the ratification of this EU Constitution.
We oppose this constitution
- because it enforces the militarisation of the EU for both political and economic reasons, with the prospect of a capability to wage war worldwide.
- because it is based on neoliberalism and commits the EU to share the principles of an "open free market economy with free competition". Social and job policies are second to economic competition. The budget for armaments and restructuring of the EU forces as well as the financing of "New Wars" will be paid for by cuts in social systems.
- because this constitution establishes an antisocial order for the European Union by depriving the EU Charter of Basic Rights various social and union aspects and because it dilutes their effectiveness.
- because it established imperial power politics inside and outside the EU; votes are carried by the majority of the big memberstates in the European Council.
Therefore we call on everybody to protest and resist this draft for a European Constitution.
In order to prevent this Constitution from being passed, we support a big public campaign that aims at informing and warning the public about its contents
